Faculty of Psychology, UMBY, Presents UPSI Malaysia Lecturer to Discuss OBE

Universitas Mercu Buana Yogyakarta (UMBY) held an International Guest Lecture Program “Outcome Based Education” (OBE) on Wednesday (21/08/2024). This activity is one form of implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UMBY and Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) Malaysia. The event was attended by 50 participants consisting of lecturers and students from UMBY and took place in the Theater Room, Campus 1, UMBY, presenting speakers from UPSI Malaysia, Asso. Prof. Ts. Dr. Che Ghani bin Che Kob.

Present at this activity, the Head of the Cooperation, Public Relations and Protocol Bureau, Widarta, S.E., M.M., CDMP., representing the Chancellor of UMBY, Dr. Ir. Agus Slamet, S.TP., M.P., MCE.

“We would like to thank you for holding this collaboration. Hopefully this activity will benefit all of us, especially for the UMBY academic community," said Widarta in his speech.

On that occasion, there were also lecturers from representatives who conveyed various OBE programs that had been running according to their faculties. Among them were 5 lecturers, namely Albert Yakobus Chandra, S.Kom., M.Eng., MTA., MCE., from the Faculty of Information Technology explained about the creation of chatbots and callbots and the creation of applications to detect skin health so that they would get the right skincare recommendations. Next, Diana Airawaty, SE., M.Acc., from the Faculty of Economics explained about e-filing in taxation. While Ir. Setyo Utomo, MP., from the Faculty of Agroindustry explained about the innovation of additional livestock feed to stimulate lust in a timely manner, the babonization system is one of the innovations to prevent stunting. Then from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Agustinus Hary Setiawan, S.Pd., M.A., reviewed the presence of the reconnect application to facilitate counseling, physiotherapy, and English-based nature schools. Lastly, the Faculty of Psychology, Dr. Kamsih Astuti, S.Psi., M.Si., explained about the procurement and management of community empowerment services to meet the needs of the world of work.

The event continued with sharing with Asso. Prof. Ts. Dr. Che Ghani bin Che Kob, with moderator Domnina Rani Puna Rengganis, S.Psi., M.Si, CPHR., about OBE management. Prof. Ghani emphasized the importance of OBE to reduce the gap or difference between education provided in lectures and industry needs, so that students not only master theory but are able to master practice. OBE itself is dynamic following the times, so universities need to make adjustments to the curriculum with what happens in the field.

"Students are required to have soft skills, hard skills, and attitudes so that when they graduate they are ready to work or will be accepted in the industrial world and are able to keep up with the times," explained Prof. Ghani.

Prof. Ghani added that OBE is a continuous pattern consisting of planning, implementation, supervision or monitoring, and the assessment or decision-making process and returning to the planning stage and so on.

In addition, this visit also discussed the possibility of programs that can be carried out such as student exchanges, lecturers, and their curriculum. In this case, the event focused more on collaborating with the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education UMBY and UPSI. FKIP presented lecturers from each study program, namely Ruly Ningsih, M.Pd., from the Guidance and Counseling study program, Daniel Ari Widhiatama, S.Pd., M.Hum., from the English Language Education study program, then Mathematics Education by Nafida Hetty Marhaeni, S.Pd., M.Pd., and the Sports Science study program, namely Antonius Tri Wibowo, S.Pd. Kor., M.Or.

On the second day of the visit, in addition to discussing OBE, UPSI lecturers and students at UMBY also introduced each other to their respective universities. UPSI lecturers and students also participated in traditional musical instrument training ‘gamelan’ with the karawitan group from UMBY at the HM. Soeharto Museum.
