UMBY Psychology Service Bureau Tests Learning Styles of Muhammadiyah Wirobrajan 3 Elementary School Students

The success of a student's learning process is influenced by the appropriateness of the teaching method to their learning style. Learning styles are divided into three types: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. A combination of these three learning styles, such as visual-auditory, visual-kinesthetic, or other styles, can also influence a student's learning style. Many schools now understand the differences in student learning styles and strive to implement appropriate learning methods to ensure optimal student learning.

Based on this, Katrim Alifa Putrikita, M.Psi., Psychologist, from the Psychological Services Bureau (BLP) of the Faculty of Psychology, Mercu Buana University Yogyakarta (UMBY), who practices at Muhammadiyah Wirobrajan 3 Elementary School, Yogyakarta, is the psychologist responsible for administering the Learning Style Test. Katrim, along with the BLP assistant, accompanied all first-grade students in taking the Learning Style Test, which was held over two days: Monday, July 22, 2024, and Tuesday, July 23, 2024. A total of 136 first-grade students at Muhammadiyah Wirobrajan 3 Elementary School, Yogyakarta, took the test.

Katrim Alifa explained that the Learning Style Test aims to identify each student's learning style, allowing for more tailored instruction. The results of the Psychological Examination (HPP) from the Learning Style Test will be provided to the school, which will then forward them to the homeroom teacher and parents.

"Through this, both teachers and parents are expected to be able to adapt their learning methods to their children, as they will already know their learning styles from the start of elementary school. In addition to optimizing the teaching and learning process, this also helps minimize the risk of stress in children due to learning that doesn't align with their learning styles," said Katrim Alifa.

Riski Husna Wardani, S.kep., Ns., a UKS officer and the person in charge of the Learning Style Test, said that this activity greatly assists homeroom teachers in teaching students with various learning styles/models. "Going forward, we hope that homeroom teachers will be able to apply the results of the learning style test," she said.
