UMBY Psychology Lecturer Shares Strategies for International Journal Publishers at UNTAR Public Lecture

UMBY Psychology Lecturer Shares Strategies for International Journal Publishers at UNTAR Public Lecture

Dr. Martaria Rizky Rinaldi, M.Psi., a lecturer in the Faculty of Psychology at Mercu Buana University Yogyakarta (UMBY), once again participated at the national level. This time, he served as a resource person at a public lecture on the Master of Psychology program at Tarumanagara University (UNTAR), held online on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. The event was attended by more than 60 participants, including psychology master's students.

In the forum, Martaria presented a topic entitled "From Thesis to Publication: Publishable Research Strategies." This topic specifically examined tactical steps for students to transform their theses into scientific publications in reputable international journals.

In his presentation, Martaria emphasized that success in getting published in international journals is not solely about data complexity, but rather about the mindset and research strategy from the outset.

"What differentiates publishable research from unpublishable research is not just the data, but the mindset. Publication is not about intelligence, but about strategy," Martaria explained.

He outlined several common student mistakes, including a weak research gap, choosing a topic that's too general, and an inadequate research design. Martaria stated that, if designed properly, a single thesis can even be developed into two or three scientific articles.

"To ensure that research is publishable, students must ensure a clear research gap based on the literature. Furthermore, design a design with novelty, for example through the use of mediator variables, moderators, or a stronger methodological approach. And ensure the research contribution is clear from the beginning of the thesis development," he explained.

Martaria's track record in the world of publication is undeniable. He shared his experience converting his dissertation into several international publications in reputable Q1, Q2, and Q3 journals. This serves as concrete evidence for students that solid research can produce a sustainable publication portfolio.

The Dean of the Faculty of Psychology at UNTAR, Dr. P. Tommy Y. S. Suyasa, M.Si., Psychologist, fully appreciated the organization of this activity. Tommy assessed that this public lecture provided strategic insights that students desperately need to face the challenges of scientific publication. He also emphasized that publication orientation is mandatory for postgraduate students.

"Students must not only complete their theses; they must also be able to publish their research results in reputable journals like Scopus. The experience of the speakers is crucial as a strategic asset for students," he said.

The event, moderated by the Head of the UNTAR Psychology Master's Program, Dr. Fransisca I. R. Dewi, M.Si., was interactive. Students enthusiastically discussed their thesis drafts directly.

"The material presented was very thorough, applicable, and addressed students' needs in preparing publication-ready research," Fransisca praised.

One participant, Eva, said she gained a lot of insight from the event.
"The material was very insightful. I gained insight and was able to directly discuss my thesis plans. This public lecture also gave me a better understanding of possible publication strategies," she said.

Through this collaboration, Dr. Martaria Rizky Rinaldi not only shares knowledge, but also strengthens the position of UMBY Psychology lecturers in promoting a culture of scientific publication at the national level and improving the quality of young Indonesian academics.
