Dosen Psikologi UMBY Isi Kuliah Tamu di Universitas Udayana
Martaria Rizky Rinaldi, M.Psi., a Psychology lecturer at Mercu Buana University Yogyakarta (UMBY), was a guest speaker at the 2025 Psychology Guest Lecture held by the Undergraduate Psychology Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (UNUD). The event, held online via Zoom Meeting, was attended by more than 160 participants, consisting of first- and third-semester students, lecturers, and alumni of the UNUD Psychology program, on Saturday (November 22, 2025).
On this occasion, Martaria Rizky delivered the topic "Psychophysiological Assessment: Tools and Applications in Emotion Research." This topic was part of the main topic of the guest lecture, "The Science of Feeling: Integrating the Biology of Emotion and Psychophysical Measurement in Understanding Human Behavior," which was designed to enrich students' understanding of the relationship between biological processes and the dynamics of human emotions.
"By understanding biomarkers such as EEG, HRV, and GSR, we can see that emotions are not just what someone feels or expresses, but also biological reactions that occur automatically in the nervous system. Changes in the brain's electrical activity, heart rate variations, and even skin responses to stimuli are objective data that can be measured, analyzed, and used to scientifically understand emotional patterns," said Martaria.
She also shared her experience in psychophysiology research and practice at UMBY and her doctoral studies at Gadjah Mada University. Martaria is currently developing clinical hypnosis-based interventions for patients with type 2 diabetes. In her research, she uses biomarkers such as EEG, HRV, GSR, and SpO₂ to observe changes in physiological responses before and after hypnosis sessions, in order to understand the psychophysiological mechanisms of relaxation and positive emotions.
The committee chair, Dr. Ni Made Swasti Wulanyani, S.Psi., M.Erg., stated that the activity was part of the UNUD Psychology Study Program's efforts to provide cross-campus learning and broaden students' horizons.
"Cross-campus and even cross-island collaboration like this is important to enrich students' understanding of the latest developments in psychology, so that they can understand the importance of integrating biology, psychology, and technology in developing emotion research in the modern era," said Dr. Ni Made.
