Strengthening the Psychosociopreneur Spirit, UMBY Psychology Holds Innovation & Creation Week Part 4
The Sociopreneur Laboratory of the Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Mercu Buana Yogyakarta (UMBY) once again hosted "Innovation & Creation Week (ICW) Part 4" on July 14, 2026, at the Faculty of Psychology Public Space (UMBY Campus 1). The event served as a venue for reflection, inspiration, and collaboration, encouraging students to cultivate a spirit of sustainable sociopreneurship.
Centered on the theme "From Vision to Impact: Innovation and Creation for Sustainable Sociopreneurship," the event invited participants to recognize that significant change always begins with a vision, a sense of care, and the courage to take small yet meaningful steps.
Ten groups of students from the 4th cohort of the Professional Psychology Education program participated, with each group comprising five students. The ICW Part 4 program consisted of three main segments: the opening ceremony, a talk show with a guest speaker, and a project showcase.
During the talk show—the event's highlight—participants had the special opportunity to hear firsthand the story behind the establishment of the UMBY Faculty of Psychology’s Sociopreneur Laboratory. The session featured Reni Yuniasanti, M.Psi., Ph.D., Psychologist—the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology and one of the laboratory's initiators.
In her presentation, she explained that the "psychosociopreneur" concept did not originate from a single individual but emerged through a lengthy process involving various discussions, input from multiple stakeholders, and alignment with the university's vision and mission.
"We need graduates who are not only successful in their own right but are also capable of creating jobs, remaining independent, and benefiting society," she stated.
She further emphasized that students need not feel pressured to change the world immediately. Major transformations can begin with simple processes undertaken with integrity and full commitment.
"There is no need to rush to change the world. Start with small steps and carry out every process properly and precisely. Meaningful impact will emerge from what appears to be something simple," she said. This spirit forms the core foundation of the Sociopreneur Laboratory: to shape psychology students who are not only academically excellent but also possess social sensitivity, an innovative spirit, and the ability to create tangible impacts on society.
ICW Part 4 also served as a moment for students to reflect on the learning journey they have undertaken. They were encouraged to look beyond personal achievement and consider how their knowledge could serve as a means of empowerment and benefit to their communities.
Nanda Yunika Wulandari, M.Psi., Psychologist—the event chairperson and Head of the Sociopreneur Laboratory at the UMBY Faculty of Psychology—noted that ICW is a regular event that delivers real impact for students. "This is a recurring event designed to help students actualize their ideas so they can benefit the general public," Nanda said.
Verdi, an undergraduate psychology student and participant, shared his thoughts: "ICW not only broadened my understanding of sociopreneurship but also encouraged my fellow students and me to be more creative, embrace collaboration, and adopt a solution-oriented mindset when addressing various social issues."
Through the hosting of Innovation & Creation Week Part 4, the UMBY Faculty of Psychology’s Sociopreneur Laboratory hopes to continue fostering a generation of young people capable of translating vision into action and turning ideas and innovations into sustainable social impact.
As the event’s message emphasized, every small step taken with good intentions, integrity, and commitment can mark the beginning of greater change for society.
"From Vision to Impact" is more than just a theme; it is a call to action for all students to keep creating, innovating, and generating value through sustainable sociopreneurship initiatives.
