Strengthening Academic Governance, UMBY's Faculty of Psychology Conducts Benchmarking with UNAIR
The Faculty of Psychology of Mercu Buana University Yogyakarta (UMBY) took a strategic step to strengthen academic governance by conducting a benchmarking visit to the Faculty of Psychology of Airlangga University (UNAIR) on Friday, April 17, 2026. During the meeting, held in Meeting Room 1B of the Faculty of Psychology, UNAIR, the UMBY Faculty of Psychology team explored various aspects of curriculum management, particularly in the master's program and professional psychology education. Furthermore, the visit also aimed to study the structure and implementation of the doctoral program curriculum as part of preparations for the opening of the doctoral program in Psychology at UMBY.
The UMBY delegation, led by the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, Reny Yuniasanti, M.Psi., Ph.D., Psychologist, brought a full team, including the dean's office, the heads and secretaries of the master's and professional study programs, as well as the quality assurance team and ethics committee. They were welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, Dr. Dewi Retno Suminar, M.Si., Psychologist, along with faculty leaders and coordinators of the master's and doctoral study programs.
During the event, both parties engaged in open discussions regarding curriculum development, particularly at the postgraduate and professional education levels. The UMBY team paid particular attention to the established curriculum structure of the doctoral program at UNAIR as a primary reference in preparing for the opening of similar programs. Furthermore, the team studied the research ethics committee management system implemented at UNAIR as an important standard in maintaining the quality and integrity of research.
On this occasion, Reny Yuniasanti emphasized that UNAIR was selected as a benchmarking partner based on the university's reputation as an institution with superior accreditation and a proven academic system. She stated that this inter-institutional learning process is crucial for UMBY to adopt relevant high standards to enhance the faculty's competitiveness in the future.
"Through benchmarking, we can understand best practices implemented at reputable universities, which can serve as a reference in developing the curriculum and academic system at UMBY, including in preparing for the opening of the doctoral program," she said.
Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Dewi Retno Suminar welcomed this collaboration as a form of support among psychology education providers. He emphasized that sharing experiences and best practices is key to collectively improving the quality of higher education in Indonesia.
"We are very open to sharing experiences and best practices in managing psychology education. Activities like this are important to encourage collective improvement in the quality of higher education," he said.
As a follow-up to this benchmarking activity, the Faculty of Psychology at UMBY will adjust and develop its curriculum based on what has been learned, while still considering the context and needs of the institution.
Through this activity, the Faculty of Psychology at UMBY demonstrates its commitment to sustainable and adaptive development, as well as to increasing the institution's competitiveness in the field of education and the development of psychology.
