UMBY Psychology Holds 'Innovation & Creation Week'
The Sociopreneur Laboratory, Faculty of Psychology, Mercu Buana University Yogyakarta (UMBY), initiated a showcase week titled Innovation & Creation Week (ICW). Embracing the spirit of "Everyone Can Create, Everyone Can Be Meaningful," ICW aims to create an ecosystem that encourages the development and application of psychological science through practical work. The entire academic community, from students to lecturers and staff, can showcase and apply their ideas and work.
The first ICW session, held on Monday, December 8, 2025, took the theme "From the Field to the Yard" and was designed in a relaxed and interactive podcast format. The event focused on the creative process behind publishing a book derived from community service activities.
Three presenters, also members of the writing team: Nanda Yunika Wulandari, M.Psi., Psychologist; Ainurizan Ridho Rahmatulloh, M.Psi., Psychologist; and Annas Fitria Sa'adah, M.Phil., shared stories about the birth of this printed work.
The presenters explained that the book arose from their concern over the current surge in sexual violence cases. After conducting community service activities related to this issue, the team realized the need to create educational work that was easily accessible to the general public.
"To increase its usefulness, we considered what we could do as part of the Tridharma of Higher Education, and we could create a work that would hopefully be accessible to the public and not limited to academic circles," said Nanda Yunika Wulandari, who also serves as Head of the Sociopreneur Laboratory at the UMBY Faculty of Psychology.
The Dean of the UMBY Faculty of Psychology, Reny Yuniasanti, M.Psi., Ph.D., Psychologist, welcomed this initiative.
"We hope that ICW, as an ecosystem we have created, will bring out the potential of every member of the academic community in the development and application of psychological science. Hopefully, with regular activities conducted through ICW, every student and lecturer will become enthusiastic and confident that psychology can become a real science whose products can be experienced by the wider community," said Reny.
The first session of the ICW ran smoothly for an hour, filled with high enthusiasm from participants, especially during the question and answer session regarding challenges in realizing a work. The speakers praised ICW as a creative space that facilitates students, lecturers, and staff to share their ideas, expand their networks, and foster academic culture.
The event concluded with an encouragement for the entire academic community to continue creating. "When an elephant dies, it leaves its ivory behind, and when a human dies, it leaves behind a name, which hopefully will be associated with their work," Nanda concluded.
