Psychology UMBY is Strong as the First Batch of Professional Psychology Education, Ready to Serve the Nation

The Faculty of Psychology at Mercu Buana University Yogyakarta (UMBY) recently graduated its first class from the Psychology Professional Education Study Program. Forty-six graduates were officially inaugurated through a Professional Oath ceremony, certifying them as professional General Psychologists with integrity. The event was held at the Eastparc Hotel Yogyakarta on Saturday, December 13, 2025. Present at the event were Dra. Reni Kusumowardhani, M.Psi., Psychologist (Chair III of the Indonesian Psychological Association (HIMPSI) Center), Miftahun Ni'mah Suseno, M.A., Psychologist (Chair of the Yogyakarta Special Region of HIMPSI), Rahmat Hidayat, S.Psi., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Chair of the Indonesian Psychological Association (AP2TPI) Center), the Rector, and other structural officials within UMBY.

In her remarks, the Head of the Psychology Professional Education Study Program at UMBY, Angelina Dyah Arum S., M.Psi, Psychologist, stated that this moment marked a historic moment for the institution.

"This event marks a historic moment for our institution, as for the first time, we are witnessing the birth of general psychologists who are graduates of UMBY, ready to serve the community and the nation," said Angelina Dyah Arum.

Angelina Dyah Arum highlighted the journey of the first class of students, which she described as a long and challenging process. Being in the first class requires extraordinary mental preparedness, not only to meet academic standards but also to grow alongside the ongoing policy process. However, she emphasized that these difficult experiences have served as strong evidence for the process of self-development.

Angelina Dyah Arum addressed the graduates who will be taking their professional oath. She emphasized that the oath is a moral and spiritual promise, not merely a ceremonial one.

"This is a commitment to upholding human dignity, upholding ethical codes, and devoting psychological competence to the restoration, strengthening, and empowerment of others. Be a psychologist with integrity and, just as importantly, a lifelong learner," he said.

Echoing the sentiment, Reny Yuniasanti, M.Psi., Ph.D., Psychologist, Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, stated that this moment holds special significance. The Psychologist Oath ceremony marks the birth of the first general psychologists from the UMBY Professional Psychology Education Study Program.

"As the first cohort, you are pioneers, serving as references, role models, and foundations for quality for subsequent cohorts. We deeply appreciate your success in completing this 1.5-year process," she said.

Reny Yuniasanti also emphasized that graduates are equipped not only with professional skills but also with the process of forging attitudes, ethics, and human sensitivity, which are the essence of a psychologist.

"Being a psychologist requires adaptability, contextualization, and responsiveness to the needs of the community. Going forward, we will continue to learn until we are finished providing services," he added.

In his remarks, the Rector of UMBY, Dr. Ir. Agus Slamet, S.TP., M.P., MCE., congratulated and congratulated all the newly inaugurated psychologists in his remarks. He hoped that the knowledge gained during their studies would be put into practice with integrity.

"Hopefully, you can apply the knowledge you have gained with integrity, and that your work can help address challenges in society. Hopefully, in the future, you will be a solution to problems, not part of the problem," he said.

The Rector also advised everyone to always uphold the good name of their alma mater wherever they are and to uphold their professional oath.

Meanwhile, Dra. Reni Kusumowardhani, M.Psi., Psychologist, Chair III of the Indonesian Psychological Association (HIMPSI) Central Board, expressed her pride in the 46 new young psychologists who also graduated with impressive grade points.

He reminded the newly appointed psychologists to continue upholding the ethics and integrity sworn in their professional oath.

"This oath reminds us to uphold our ethics and integrity so that our journey to the pinnacle of professional excellence is filled with something gentle, subtle, and meaningful, resulting in extraordinary satisfaction. The oath we have taken is not just an oath and promise before humans, but before God, and I hope we can uphold these ethics," he said.

He also added that in this era of AI, practicing psychologists presents a unique challenge.

"This challenge encourages us not to be defeated by AI but to compete and remain present with all aspects of humanity," he concluded.
